The authors reveal several opinions about the importance of discovering a particular language, both at the beginning of the study of medicine and in the profession. Key words: learning of medical workers, English, Spanish, German, role of learning, medicine, education, qualification, medical job, skills. Introduction On first impression, you would say that the professional qualification might be more substantial. However, we want to discuss the role of learning new languages in medical jobs. To be more specific, let’s find out the importance of Romano-Germanic languages since it is the most frequently spoken group. Chapter 1 To start with, let us take a look at the role of the English language in the professional qualification of medical workers. Research has found that English is one of the most popular languages in the world. It is spoken among 365 million people! That explains why it has become the basis of international communication and cooperation in various fields. It plays a huge role in the study of medicine, as a lot of information in this area is available only in English. Therefore, having a confident level of proficiency in this language can be an advantage for everyone connected with the medical field. 2 Журнал «Трибуна ученого» Выпуск 06/2023 https://tribune-scientists.ru Although medicine in different countries may have its own features there are a number of general principles and terms that are used all over the world and unite specialists. Today, English has become the reference language for such a community. Numerous articles, textbooks, journals and other publications in the field of medicine are published in English. Most of the new scientific breakthroughs in medicine occur abroad. World-class experts working in the best clinics in different countries use English as a means of communication and information exchange. Basically, even a little knowledge of English can be a professional privilege for those who are interested in access to up-to- date information. In the modern world, English is also an integral part of the international communication process. As a rule, people working in this industry are in high demand as long as they are potentially more skilled in conveying information with colleagues all around the world. In terms of success, English can become a key to both: getting a new job or achieving a new degree, since it is the most common language used in sharing progress between different countries. On the other hand, the language might be useful for obtaining knowledge in the industry itself. It is known that TOP universities across the world offer courses and practices in the healthcare field. Communication in English can also take place throughout the professional life of a doctor. Numerous scientific conferences, symposiums and other opportunities are designed for professional communication of experts in the field of medicine. These events are held abroad and are a major mechanism for the exchange of knowledge and ideas between professionals. Proficiency in that language helps medical staff to get necessary information faster and more effectively which leads to decreasing the patients’ death rate. In conclusion, English is essential in medicine, as it provides access to new sources of information, new ideas of professional development and last but not least, endless opportunities. Especially job opportunities. Chapter 2 3 Журнал «Трибуна ученого» Выпуск 06/2023 https://tribune-scientists.ru Undoubtedly, the role of Spanish language in professional qualification of medical workers can’t be overestimated. The language is overspread among 387 million. Its importance can be traced in many ways. Additionally, more than a half of a billion people speak it around the world hence the necessity of communication with Spanish speaking patients is very obvious. Secondly, medical books and articles are written in Spanish. Medical staff have to obtain the language to fully and accurately understand them. A vast amount of conferences and international research are held in Spanish. In 2023 Spain will host more than 35 conferences for medical workers in Spanish. Fourthly, Spain has been considered as one of the leading countries in medicine in the EU for a long time. Being right next to Germany, makes Spain a very attractive place to study and practice medicine as long as it might be a little cheaper. The proof of the fact is a famous clinic in Barcelona (Hospital Clinic de Barcelona). There is the main difference in comparison with other languages. Let us mention that the knowledge of medicine can be explained among numerous people in their first language. On the matter of fact, listening to Spanish speeches or speaking patients can prove to be extremely valuable for any specialist. Chapter 3 In countries where these languages are spoken, medical professionals must be proficient in the language to communicate with patients and colleagues. Quite often, this is supported by the law. For example, in Germany, no matter what qualifications you have or how professional you are, any doctor must pass a language proficiency test before they can officially get a job. Furthermore, many medical journals and research papers are written in German, making it essential for medical professionals to be able to read and understand them. This is particularly important for doctors and researchers who want to stay up-to-date with the latest medical developments and treatments. In addition, the German language includes all of the factors of previous listed languages. Nevertheless, there is still a difference. Not only conferences and seminars are held in this language but also the newest technologies provided by this country are 4 Журнал «Трибуна ученого» Выпуск 06/2023 https://tribune-scientists.ru effective as no other point. We should refer to the importance of both laboratory and medical equipment providing opportunities for medical professionals to apply the knowledge in practice. According to statistics, Germany is a leading country in medical research and innovation that is why many detailed instruction manuals are written in German. Therefore, learning the language can provide medical staff with access to the latest medical developments, instructions and possible treatments. Additionally, Germany has a highly developed healthcare system. Medical professionals who speak German can also enhance their career opportunities by working in international settings or collaborating with German-speaking colleagues. It provides access to medical research and literature, enhances career opportunities, and facilitates effective communication with patients and colleagues. Medical literature in German provides valuable insights into the German healthcare system, medical practices and cultural norms that influence patient care. Chapter 4 At the end of the day, the role of any language listed above is significant. Those can lead to the best possible patient to specialist communication and definitely, to progress in medicine in general. Another point worth noting is the opinion of wasting time on useless information. Day by day, achieving professional goals in this field becomes much more tough. That explains why some of the medical workers believe they spend time on these unnecessary activities because there is always a better option to improve themselves in a professional way. Referring to the beginning of this topic, some of the well-qualified workers in the healthcare industry claim the proficiency to be more significant than the skill of translating. From my point of view, learning even one of the Romano-Germanic languages can become a key success factor, helping to better understand the international context in the field of medicine, as well as expand the horizons of professional activity. Журнал «Трибуна ученого» Выпуск 06/2023 https://tribune-scientists.ru 5 Consequently, those languages become the basis for the unification of medical terminology as long as they are part of the Latin group of languages. They are the most widely used languages in the field of medicine. Being able to communicate effectively in these languages can also enhance career opportunities for medical professionals who work in international settings or with patients from diverse cultural backgrounds. Conclusion All things considered, the major factor of our proficiency as a medical student or worker (in any level) is adaptive mechanisms in terms of modern research. We are suspected to provide high-level procedures. Therefore, “speeding up” in translations to consume more information about either the disease or the history of illness, and provide direct communications using the language the person understands even in the stressful situation possible is much more valuable. The Romano-Germanic group of languages is vital for the professional qualification of medical workers. It enables effective communication with patients and colleagues, facilitates access to medical research and literature, and enhances career opportunities in international settings. Finally, you would not be able to read this masterpiece! The ability of reading sources in different languages plays an important role in providing valuable insights into the foreign healthcare system, enhancing language skills and improving cultural understanding. It can ultimately lead to better patient care and outcomes for both medical professionals and their patients. References: 1. Значение английского языка в медицине.
